Zhitang Fm

Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Earliest Nanhuan (latest Tonian), Nh (61)

Province:
Zhejiang

Type Locality and Naming

West-central Zhejiang. The Zhitang Fm was named by Liu Hongyun and Sha Qing'an (1959). The type section is located at Zhitang village, Longyou County, Zhejiang Province.

Synonym: (志堂组)

Lithology and Thickness

The Zhitang Fm consists of three parts above a basal purple-red conglomerate to sandy conglomerate. Lower and Middle parts are tuffaceous siltstone, fine-grained sandstone with tuffite. Upper part is mainly siltstone with silty shale. The Zhitang Formation is 600-800 m thick.

Lithology Pattern:
Siltstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The Zhitang Fm is conformable with the underlying Banxi Gr. [However, schematic stratigraphic column #61 indicates it overlies the Shangshu Fm.]

Upper contact

The top is conformably overlain by the Leigongwu Fm [However, schematic stratigraphic column #61 indicates it underlies the Gucheng Fm tillite of lower Ediacaran.]

Regional extent

West-central Zhejiang.
